Event Report: Kitchener-Waterloo Subchapter Ice-skating

Big Jenga!

On Saturday, February 28, a motley crew of Toronto JETAA members set off for a new land, known only by a mysterious acronym: KW. They had heard tales of ex-JETs living in this strangely-named land and were determined to find them. They piled into cars, with only a Google map and a map sent by a KW JET to guide them.

After an arduous journey, they arrived at St Jacob’s Market. They had read that this market offered many tasty treats, from sausage to hummus to extravagant apple fritters. While all manner of snacks were consumed, the mysterious KW JETs were yet to be found.

Unhindered, they followed their instructions and found themselves at Block 3 Brewery. Many challenges awaited them, the most skill testing being an oversized game of Jenga. After stacking and balancing and building a precarious tower of wood, they beat the game and headed off to the next location on their map: The Boathouse. There, our Torontonian explorers were met by the KW JETs. The occasion was marked with time-honoured JET activities: the sharing of a meal, swapping of placement stories, and wistful sighs about ‘the Japan days’.

Good times in KW

The now larger group set off into the heart of KW, where they engaged in a battle of wits over the 1988 version of Trivial Pursuit located at Imbibe pub. Having dazzled each other with knowledge of Cold War politics, the sitcoms of youth, and other arcane facts, an alliance was forged. After much merriment, the Toronto contingent bundled back up and headed back to the city, excitedly discussing plans for future events with KW JETs as they travelled home through the frozen night.
