On Thursday September 10th, JETAA returned to BATL in the docklands for our second annual axe throwing tournament. Plaid shirts were out in force as we all tried to get a little closer to our lumberjack roots by chucking axes at wooden targets.
We had 17 JETs and JET friends turn up for the event, with more than half of the attendees being new to the sport of axe throwing.
One such beginner was Naoki, the Bladed Wonder, a previously unheard of hedge knight who absolutely decimated all JETAA competition (including defending axe champion, Nicholas Jones).
Naoki made it all the way to the tournament final, where he faced the lumberjack-bearded and bush-jacketed Anthony Ferreira. Despite Anthony’s tributes to the lumberjack gods, they did not smile on him that day, and Naoki defeated him to take the title of JETAA Axe Champion for 2015.
If you’ve never heard of axe throwing before, it’s not nearly as dangerous as it may sound, and a ton more fun than you may think. JETAA will definitely be returning to BATL for some more axe throwing soon, so be sure to make it out to our next event if you missed this one.
