Report – Axe Throwing 2016

On Saturday September 24th, JETAA returned to BATL in the docklands for our third annual axe throwing tournament. Although we lacked plaid shirts and flannel, we tried our best to tap into our inner lumberjack, and chuck axes at wooden targets in a way that would make a proper woodsperson proud.

We had 16 JETs and JET friends turn up for the event, with more than half of the attendees being new to the sport of axe throwing.

You’re Ready – A Tribute to the 2016 Departing JETs

June and July are some of JETAA Toronto’s busiest months. This is when our collaboration with the Consulate General of Japan in Toronto reaches a fever pitch as we work together to prepare the new cohort of departing JETs for their eventual departure to Japan.

And, at the triumphant and bittersweet end of these feverish months of orientations and seminars, we have the final pre-departure reception for the departing JETs.

Event Report – JETAANY Summer Retreat

From July 30-31st, the New York chapter of JETAA (JETAANY) hosted their first Summer Retreat and a small contingent of JETAA Toronto members decided to drive down for the weekend to check it out.

The retreat was at the Taconic Outdoor Education Center in Coldspring, New York, just north of New York City, in the beautiful and luscious Hudson Valley. True to its name, it was cold in comparison to the continuous heat waves Toronto was experiencing, which was a nice reprieve.
