Members of JETAA Toronto have joined much of the world, watching in shock and sadness as the extent of the devastation caused by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in Japan has become evident. Many of us have friends in the hardest hit areas of the country, and some have spent days trying to contact people amid unreliable phone networks and power blackouts.

There are many positive stories emerging, but there is also destruction,fear, loss of life and hundreds of thousands of displaced people. Seeing this happen to a country and people we came to know and love has been hard, especially when most of us are far away.

But we are not helpless! We can lend our support in many ways. That is why on April 1, JETAA Toronto will host a special fundraising event in support of the rescue, relief and rebuilding efforts so needed in Japan.

Support Japan, Beneath the Blossoms

Hanami 2010

JETAA Toronto is inviting you to celebrate the beauty of the cherry blossom at its 5th Annual Hanami Picnic in High Park. Come out with your family and friends on Saturday, May 7 and enjoy some fun activities and Hanami snacks. This, like all our currently planned events will be an opportunity for attendees to donate to the Canadian Red Cross’s relief and support efforts in Japan, after the disastrous earthquake of March 11.

Faito, Faito, Let’s Go Carps!

Dragon Boat

Interested in a getting a great workout and meeting a boat-load of fellow JET alumni at the same time? Why not join the JETAA Fighting Carps dragonboat team this summer?

For those not familiar with the sport, dragonboats are powered by 20 paddlers, plus a “sweep” or steerer at the back and a drummer keeping rhythm from the front.

Art & Photo Show A Roaring Success

On Saturday, March 5th, our steaming hot art show was a blazing success at the Gladstone Art Bar. Bellies full of wine and music in our limbs, things really heated up as the room was filled to the brim with JET alumni and friends of JET alike. We had close to 70 people in attendance, presenting a terrific opportunity to see some old faces and make new friends.
