Funded Japanese Lessons

We are pleased to offer JLPT-focus Japanese classes to JETAA Toronto alumni! Lessons will be half conversational, half structured lesson.

 

Dates: February 25, March 4, 5, 11, 18, 19, 25 (total of 7 classes)

Time: 6:15 pm – 8:15 pm

Location: Toronto Reference Library. 789 Yonge St. (1 block north of Yonge & Bloor) Meeting Room B1

Fee: $70 (deposit*) + course materials

 

* The fee for the course will act as a deposit. It will be returned to individuals who complete 5 or more lessons of the course. For those who attend less than 5 classes, $10 will be deducted from the deposit per missed class. In addition, the costs for course materials used in class are approximately $10. On the first day of class, please bring your deposit cheque payable to JETAA Toronto.

AGM: Positions Available For 2013 Executive

The JET Alumni Association of Toronto is one of the largest and most active chapters in Canada and the world. Coming up in February, we will be holding our Annual General Meeting, at which the year’s activities and events are reviewed and the 2013 executive will be chosen.

 

Our Executive Committee objectives are as follows:

1. To work closely with the Consulate-General of Japan in Toronto to support its initiatives,

2. To liaise with Japan-related organizations in Toronto, and

3. To promote the growth and success of the JET Programme.

 

Being part of the Executive Committee is a great opportunity to work with an excellent volunteer group who work to make a difference. We’re sending a shout-out to those interested in joining an energetic group of people!

Cost: Free to join for JETAA members

Speaker Series Report

From Eri Asai's

On December 5, JETAA was pleased to invite Eri Asai to come to the Japan Foundation to speak about her experiences as a Japanese film maker in Canada.

Ms. Asai screened two short films and discussed her experiences in a creative field while juggling the roles of wife, mother of two, immigrant and university student.

The first film presented, Momiji, was a short film based on her experiences as a newcomer to Canada. Screened at Toronto Reel Asian International Film Festival in November, Momiji is a window in the mind of the director and her experiences raising a family in a new country. The second documentary, Stray Dogs, is a look at a romantic relationship in progress.
