Career Roundtable Industry Expert Bio: Education

We will be posting bios for our industry experts over the next week. We are excited to introduce the first: Sandy Gibson.

Sandy Gibson is an elementary school Core French teacher.  He first dove into teaching at the age of 16 as a swimming instructor in Ottawa and has been educating children in some way ever since. He has worked overnight and day camps for seven of the past ten years, while fitting in time for a Bachelors in Political Studies at Queen’s and an MA in Child Study and Education at U of T. Sandy spent two wonderful years in Yamagata, Japan as a JET teaching English to senior high school students and loved virtually every minute of it. When he isn’t teaching, Sandy enjoys biking, basketball, and the silly shenanigans that spring from his involvement in improv and sketch comedy.

For those looking to break into teaching, the best advice Sandy can give is to be versatile and flexible. Getting qualified to teach subjects that are in demand such as French, Math, or Music is important as is having the willingness to teach it even though you may not be 100% confident in your abilities.
