Introducing: Jeff Minthorn

Title: Co-founder and editor-in-chief, Verge magazine

Jeff hails from Waterloo, Ontario and holds degrees in Environmental Studies and Architecture from the University of Waterloo. He has worked and studied on four continents and travelled to six, including a season’s worth of expeditions to Antarctica. He is a great believer in the value of travel-as-education and sees Verge Magazine as a way to encourage people to learn about the world and its myriad cultures by experiencing as much of it as possible.

Advice:

For anyone interested in breaking into magazine publishing, my best advice (besides “don’t”) would be to find a mentor who is working in the industry and who would be willing to give you a candid look at what it entails, at the rapidly changing publishing landscape that magazines currently occupy and at the skills you’ll need to manage a publication. One skill set you’ll absolutely need to hone is project management and any activity you can undertake that develops and tests those skills will be an enormous asset.
