On Saturday, March 5th, our steaming hot art show was a blazing success at the Gladstone Art Bar. Bellies full of wine and music in our limbs, things really heated up as the room was filled to the brim with JET alumni and friends of JET alike. We had close to 70 people in attendance, presenting a terrific opportunity to see some old faces and make new friends.
Thanks to attendees and the exec committee who made this event possible. Good tunes, courtesy of our DJ, fumed some sporadic hot hot dancing. The films playing on the projector screen were Karate Kid: Part II and the anime, Paprika. We also served Japanocentric snacks, surprising chance street visitors who had dropped by to see what the hubbub was all about.
A total of 25 framed photographs were exhibited, the subject ranging from smouldering hot sports days to fiery sunsets to steaming hot food. Keeping to the Japanese theme, all brought on nostalgia for our JET days, sparking conversations a-plenty. If you did not make it out to the Gladstone but still wish to view the photos, you may visit the online gallery which also includes all the submissions we didn’t have the means to exhibit at the show.
Considering the current grave situation in Japan, it has been decided that the framed photographs will be auctioned off to raise relief funds. The sentiment is there – each photograph is chock-full of memories of Japan! Given the high success of this year’s art show, next year promises to be even bigger and better.
Thanks again to all for coming out!
