The day began with a meet-up at Kingston’s beautiful Confederation Park, where a motley grew of JETAA members and friends chatted, made-merry, and explored the historic downtown area and waterfront. Along with local produce and treats from the Saturday farmers’ market, we also enjoyed the revelrous atmosphere of the Limestone City Blues Festival, which filled the whole waterfront area for a weekend of music.
After exploring downtown and enjoying live music and lunch, we hopped aboard a triple-decker paddle-wheeler boat for a leisurely boat cruise through the Thousand Islands. The cruise was a great way to kick-back and take-in the remarkable scenery while learning about the history of the Thousand Islands area, Kingston’s military history, it’s important alcohol-smuggling role during US prohibition, and the region’s modern history, which now includes many multi-million dollar cottages nestled on the beautiful islands.
After the cruise we enjoyed dinner with a view at the Battery Bistro at Fort Henry, overlooking the city as the sun set.
The event was a big success with over 20 participants representing three JETAA chapters! It’s always great when we have a chance to meet-up with JETAA members from other parts of Canada, and we’re looking forward to holding a similar event next year!
Big “Thank You!” to everyone who came out to participate, especially fellow organizers Janelle Weibelzahl from JETAA Ottawa and Nha-Thy Vo from JETAA Quebec/Atlantic. Well done!
