Event Report: Career Round Table 2015

Round table 2015

The third annual JETAA Career Roundtable was held on Thursday, November 26. This year we once again had a great turn out, with recently returned JETs, as well as more established members, looking for career inspiration.

The night started with our keynote speaker, James Heron, the executive director of the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre. James connected the skills he learned in his time as an English teacher in Japan to his current position of working with Japanese organizations and businesses. He attributed his success to the knowledge he gained while living and working in Japan.

Following the keynote, three more speakers discussed their career paths after JET. Chi Diep, post-secondary college project coordinator, spoke about being fearless in starting a new career. Duncan MacCallum, national sales manager, spoke about his career path at RBC Royal Bank. Nicholas Custodio, art teacher, spoke about utilizing the JET alumni network to get a start in the career of your dreams.

Following the talks, the alumni and guests enjoyed our networking reception, with several recruiters for Japanese companies also mingling with the group. Once again, one of the draws of the evening was our professional head shot pop-up studio, with our photographer, Nick Jones.  All those who took professional
head shots – your photos will be available very soon.
