Interested in a getting a great workout and meeting a boat-load of fellow JET alumni at the same time? Why not join the JETAA Fighting Carps dragonboat team this summer?
For those not familiar with the sport, dragonboats are powered by 20 paddlers, plus a “sweep” or steerer at the back and a drummer keeping rhythm from the front.
No experience is required to join the team, which is largely made up of JET alumni but also includes some friends of JETs.
The dragonboat season begins in late June and wraps up in mid-September with the second of two regattas. There are weekly practices at the Sunnyside Pavillion on a to-be-determined day.
It costs approximately $150 to join the team, but that fee covers the cost of boat and equipment rentals, all race registration fees, and your team T-shirt.
