Making Your International Experience Count

Jeff Minthorn has led a pretty interesting existence. At a special JETAA Toronto Speakers Series event in January, he shared it with several dozen JET alumni and friends.

The crowd at the Japan Foundation Toronto heard Jeff’s insights about bringing international experience – such as the JET Programme – home, and incorporating the skills and enjoyment people get doing international work, into their next move.

After studying architecture and almost burning out in some stressful jobs, a chance opportunity to work on a ship in Antarctica spurred Jeff in a new direction. Eventually he founded Verge Magazine, focusing on opportunities for people to travel and work abroad in a meaningful way. Now, after publishing for almost a decade Verge is distributed across North America and is a success story in the tough industry of magazine publishing.

It was a fascinating talk for both newly returned JETs and those who have been back for years. JETAA Toronto extends a warm thank you to Jeff Minthorn for taking the time to talk to us and answer our questions, and we encourage everyone with an international interest to check out his magazine and website.
