Call For Submissions: JAVA/JETAA Art Exhibition

JAVA Toronto and JETAA Toronto invites artists in all stages of career to submit artwork reflecting the theme “Middle Distance” to their joint 2013 Exhibition.

Nakamichi / Middle Distance is an exhibition, which seeks to include (but not limit) a cross-section of diverse work from both Japanese and English speaking artists that can illustrate similarities and differences between cultures. The theme is open to interpretation but some concepts to consider are as follows:

  • ŸA point between foreground and background, part of a pictorial representation
  • ŸTransitory aspects of everyday life
  • ŸA point in time
  • ŸMahyamaka – A Buddhist concept which stipulates a position between metaphysical claims that things either exist or do not exist.

Submissions must include the following:

1. Artist Statement (maximum of 1 page): Contextualizes the work submitted within your artistic practice and how it reflects “middle distance” as a theme.
2. Curriculum Vitae (maximum of 2 pages): Describe your artistic background (e.g. education, grants, scholarships or awards received, professional status, previous exhibitions or performances, commissions, professional memberships, articles, etc.)
3. Images/Support Material: 4 to 7 JPEG images and/or link to video(s). All images must be numbered and labeled to match the corresponding image list.
4. Image List: Name and date created of each image.

All images should be in JPEG format, 300 dpi and no larger than 1MB in size. File names should correspond to the image list.
