Welcome Back Returning JETs
On Saturday, September 14th JETAA members welcomed back returning JETs by eating a tasty dinner along with plenty to drink at Don Don Izakaya on Dundas Street West. The returners Izakaya night was a great way for those JETs coming back to Canada to mingle with their sempai and discuss many things, from reintegrating back into Canadian culture to reverse culture shock.
Of course, the majority of the night’s discussions always came back to one thing, Japan. If there is one thing a JETAA member loves to discuss it is their time spent in Japan and their stories from being there.
And heads up to the returning JETs, don’t worry about sounding like an obsessed Japan-freak because we all love to do it. Actually, the more stories you have, the more we’ll like you. So keep coming out to the JETAA events and indulge us with your reminiscing tales of English teaching and other escapades.
Overall, the returners Izakaya night was a great time spent with wonderful old and new members. The ni-jikai this time, was at JAVAs pub night at Aji Sai.
It was another great social, bringing together JETs with Japanese people studying or living in Canada and those interested in Japanese visitors in Toronto. If returning JETs are interested in JAVA culture be sure to check out the upcoming Hajjoween Party to be held Nov. 1st.
If you’re a returning JET and didn’t come out to the Returners Izakaya night there are plenty of other upcoming events to check out such as the Returning Conference in late October, the Career Round Table in November, the JAVA/JETAA Art Show Nov 22-24, and don’t miss out on the Japanese classes starting now (from September 30).
